No resolutions for 2014

I find resolutions rarely stick for long.

That’s why I’m not making any this year. No pressure either.

I think resolutions are a thing of the past . Am I wrong? Have you made a New Year’s resolution?

Whatever your plans for 2014, may they bring you joy and peace.

Happy New Year.

  1. But you just did express intent for the year ahead ! –
” I look forward to 2014 as a wide open opportunity to bring goodwill to all.” K Rumleski
Making a list of resolutions and talking them up is somewhat of a recent media invention
    in my experience.
And not a good approach as we stand at the Gate of the Year, setting oneself up for failure,
    guilt and self-involvement.
So “Resolve” not Ms Rumleski with a clear conscience.

  2. If that phrase Gate of the Year is familiar, it takes us back 74 years to the King’s speech
the first Christmas of the second world conflict in a generation, 1939.
“A new year is at hand. We cannot tell what it will bring. If it brings peace, how thankful
we shall all be. If it brings us continued struggle we shall remain undaunted.”
Quoting from Minnie Haskins’ poem “The Gate of the Year” (1908) :
I said to the man who stood at the Gate of the Year,
‘Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown.’
And he replied, ‘Go out into the darkness, and put your hand into the Hand of God.
That shall be better than light, and safer than a known way.’ ]

  3. If resolutions are rarely keep what would happen if you resolved to do the opposite? For instance if I resolve to get fatter would I get thinner? If I resolve to be a better person would I become a badder person? Just questions!
