Important year as Western Fair Raceway opens

With fall in the air, it means WFR is opening.  The half-mile track operates from the fall until early June.

A new announcer will call the races this season.

Shannon ‘Sugar’ Doyle joins the team.  He was calling races in Edmonton for the past eight years and comes to WFR to replace Greg Blanchard, who is now raceway manager.

Blanchard replaces Ian Fleming as manager. Fleming continues as race secretary as he scales back some of his duties.

I’m happy to see Ian continue and I hope he will be enjoying a few more days off.

Ian has done so much for Western Fair and harness racing.

It will be interesting to see how WFR promotes itself and its product after the cancellation of the Slots at Racetrack Program.

Anyone have ideas for them?

Are you excited about the start of racing?
