Drummond wants slot machines outside of racetracks

As feared by horse racing competitors and enthusiasts, former TD Bank chief economist Don Drummond wants the province to muck with the slot machine agreement in place at tracks.

He said the government would make more money outside if the slot parlours were located outside of racetrack facilities.

The contract with racetrack operators expires next year.

Would tracks still get a cut if the machines are moved?

Not likely if they are not housed within their facilities.

Of course these are only recommendations but I’m sure the horse racing community will fight to ensure this never gets off the pages of the Drummond report, which was commissed by the government to find savings while Ontario struggles with a deficit.

  1. The above list includes only the highest incomes. In my opinion ALL tax-supported, publily-financed appropriations for every salary and every expenditure and every grant should be available for public review and scrutiny…not just the high-fliers.

  2. Would tracks still get a cut if the machines are moved?

These places cost a fortune to erect, they need their own hydro, cooling systems are a must and a fortune, vaults etc . . .money makers though..

  3. I wonder who the main vendors and suppliers of gaming technolgy, machines, systems, supplies to OLG racetrack and lotto and all legalized gaming are, and what amounts are allocated?
Speculating (but not sure/don’t know) that it could be or could not be:
    International Game Technology
    Lottomatica
    Aristocrat Leisure Limited
    Bally Technologies Inc.
    WMS industies
In any case where do admin and maintenace and third party expenditures for hardware, engineering, automation, processing and fees for use of un-owned assets go?
Wonder how much is paid to foreign enterprises?
Wonder how much is paid to lawyers and to settlements?
How much is spent on investigating fraud…and how much is recovered?
